“Do you have any idea how crazy you make me Renee?” Dimitri growled in my ear.
My head fell back against his muscular chest and I looked up into his deep blue eyes. “Why don’t you show me?”
His eyes went wide then darkened as he grabbed my hand and led me off the dance floor. The private party rooms were full so we climbed the spiral staircase to the third floor where we found an unoccupied seating arrangement. There were two half circle couches facing each other and Dimitri chose the one on the right so that his back was to the wrought iron railing and he could see if anyone approached us from either side. He pulled me down to straddle him with my knees resting on the soft leather couch and kissed me. It was a hungry kiss, demanding, and I responded in kind.
My hands burrowed into his thick wavy hair while his hands went under my skirt and ripped my panties off. When his fingers slid inside me, I broke the kiss gasping and his lips moved to my neck. His mouth kissed and sucked while his fingers moved in and out sending heat flashing through my nerve endings. He thrust his other hand under my shirt, pushing it and my bra up, then his lips closed over my nipple. Everything down low tightened and a rush of hot wetness poured over his fingers.
He growled, sucking harder on my nipple while he worked on opening his pants. A second later, his erection was rubbing against the entrance to my body and I lowered myself letting him fill me with his hard flesh.
He tore his lips from my breast and the look in his eyes sent a shiver up my spine. Gripping my hips he said, “Fuck me Renee, ride me like your life depends on it.”
I did as he asked, moving my hips up and down with my hands braced on the back of the couch. His eyes grew darker then started glowing with red flames as his body began to stiffen with his impending climax.
I was far from unaffected by what we were doing but doubts kept creeping into my brain and I suspected the fox was behind them. Why was I doing this? To get back at Solomon? Just to get myself off? I could have just bitten him if that was all I wanted.
Dimitri moaned, throwing his head back and I knew he wasn’t going to last much longer. Before I could be left wanting again I leaned down and sank my fangs into his throat. His blood hit my tongue and I sucked long and hard as waves of ecstasy crashed over us. His grip tightened and his hips rose meeting mine as our bodies slammed together over and over.
Suddenly it wasn’t Dimitri beneath me, it was Solomon and everything changed because with the physical sensations ravaging my body I felt connected to him. It was the same sense of belonging I always felt when I was near Solomon but stronger somehow.
Before I could make sense of what was happening Dimitri shoved me off his lap, his face a livid mask when he roared, “What the fuck Renee?”
Dammit. I must have projected my feelings for Solomon along with the sexual high from drinking Dimitri’s blood. I started to explain, not that anything I could say would make this any better, but a tingle of awareness had me looking out over the club where I met Solomon’s furious gaze. He was also on the third floor, standing by the railing directly across from us. He looked good in his Avenged Sevenfold T-shirt and black jeans with his artfully tussled hair falling over his brow, damn good actually. He must have found someone to feed from because the dark circles under his eyes were gone and he no longer looked like he was trying out for a part on The Walking Dead.
When he started heading in our direction I said, “Shit, I have to go,” then jumped to my feet and bolted. If I was lucky I could get back to my place, pack a bag, and be gone by the time Solomon caught up with me.
~ Solomon ~
Finding Renee was proving to be a lot more difficult than I anticipated. I’d forgotten how big Supernova was and just how many people the annual tournament drew in. To complicate matters I’d been fending off some very persistent women since I walked through the door. Now I was on the third floor looking over the railing, searching for Renee in the heaving crowd of people below.
The blaring music barely covered the ecstatic moans and groans rising with increasing frequency as more and more partygoers shed their clothing and gave in to their basest urges. The scent of salt and musk, sweat and sex filled my senses making my pulse pound as my eyes flew from one face to the next, desperately seeking green eyes and creamy white skin with pale freckles scattered over a tiny nose. There were just too many people and I wasn’t even sure she was here.
Deciding the fox might have better luck; I reached out with all his senses and let him zero in on our mate as only he could. I might have strong feelings for Renee, but only through the magic of the fox could she be my mate. Taking deep breaths, I closed my eyes and focused. When I was sure the fox knew where she was, I opened my eyes and found that I’d moved about ten yards to the right and had the undeniable urge to look across to the other side of the club.
Renee was there with her hands braced on the back of a couch and her fangs buried in someone’s neck. That I could have lived with, but the way her lower body was moving told me there was a lot more than just feeding going on. Everything inside me screamed MINE! Then I slipped into her mind replacing whoever that asshole beneath her was with me. It didn’t take long for those thoughts to reach his mind then he shoved her off his lap and roared like a madman. All three parts of my soul snarled furiously and Renee’s head snapped up searching until her eyes, still black from feeding, met mine.
I took one step in her direction and Renee took off. I started running and I would have caught her if the guy she’d just been fucking hadn’t intercepted me. He wasn’t much taller than I was, maybe six foot, but he had to be carrying at least thirty pounds more than me on his muscular body.
“She doesn’t want you,” he growled with an angry sneer. “What does she have to do to get you to understand that?”
“I don’t have time for you right now,” I replied evenly, watching to see which portal Renee disappeared through. She was changing the color and style of her hair every few seconds trying to get lost in the crowd but I managed to keep track of her as she pushed her way through the club. Once she was gone, I focused on the demon in front of me. “But trust me, once I catch up to my mate and sort this out, I’ll be back to deal with you.”
Red flames flared in his eyes telling me he was a fire demon right before his fist flashed out and ran into the brick wall I conjured in front of me. While he howled in pain and the wall dissolved, I vaulted over the railing. When I landed on the stage below, the crowd applauded and I took a bow before sprinting through the second to last portal on the left, making sure it closed behind me.
Once I was through the portal, I looked around and smiled. So the town in our shared dream was a real place. Betting the house was too, I took off down the road I’d traveled a hundred times in my sleep. When I reached the small house, I didn’t even pause at the door. I flung the door open, went inside and found Renee in the bedroom packing a bag.
“Going somewhere?” I asked closing the door then leaning back against it.
She jumped about five feet in the air and spun around to face me. “What are you doing here Solomon?”
“Getting some answers Renee,” I replied, drinking in the sight of her.
Her hair was its natural auburn color, but I knew the short style was only a projection from the ring I’d given her. Renee loved her long curly locks even if she did choose short hairstyles more often than not. To my surprise, she was wearing a black lacy mini skirt with thigh high stockings, short high-heeled boots and a red and black sleeveless top. She always looked great in skirts but I could probably count the number of times I’d seen her wearing one without running out of fingers and toes.
Forcing myself to focus on her face, I watched her eyes dart around the room then she started edging towards the closet. “Look Solomon, we both know you don’t want to be tied down to one woman, least of all me, so just go back the way you came and walk away.”
I had no idea where she thought she was going with the only exit behind me, but her body was te
nse and she looked like she was ready to bolt again.
“Is that why you’ve been trying to keep me away? Because you think I don’t want to be mated to you?” I gritted through my teeth, moving closer to her but fighting the need to touch her. I wanted her to want me before the mating frenzy kicked in.
She put her hands on her hips. The way she was standing there with her hip cocked to one side was so classic Renee that I had to smile even though I was furious with her. “What the hell are you smiling at Solomon? There’s nothing funny about any of this. I know how hard it’s going to be to stay away from each other but I’m not going to make you stay with me just because some psycho in charge of fate thinks we belong together.”
“What if I think we belong together?” I asked, watching how she was eyeing the open closet door. What the hell was in there that she thought could help her escape me?
She snorted. “You’ve fucked half the female population of this planet since I met you. Don’t you want to finish what you started?”
The bitter edge in her voice tore at my heart and I closed my eyes for just a second wondering how I could have missed the pain I’d obviously been causing her. When my eyes opened, she was disappearing through the closet door and I dashed in to catch her arm right before she went through a portal. Keeping a firm grip on her arm, I pulled her out of the closet and slammed the door shut.
That was when I felt it. It was almost as if someone had lit a fire in my chest. My soul was burning, reaching out to its other half and I had no way to fight what happened next.
Our eyes locked for half a second, hers were wide, the green flecked with the gold of her fox. There was fear there, but also desire, scorching in its intensity.
“No more running Renee,” I whispered just before my lips came down on hers.
The taste of her was an instant addiction, and I knew I would never get enough as our tongues danced together, circling and rubbing, fanning the flames of my desire.
I reached down and she hopped up into my arms with her legs wrapped around my hips. Her hands speared into my hair, pulling just slightly with her hunger and I growled in response. She seemed to like that because her legs tightened and she moaned as the scent of her arousal filled the air.
The fox was agitated because he could smell the other man’s scent on her but neither of us was willing to let that stop us from claiming our mate. Once she was bound to us, she’d know the truth of our feelings and all her fears and doubts would melt away.
She broke the kiss gasping for breath and I moved to her neck. I wanted to take things slow but the aching need I felt for her was almost unbearable.
“I need you Solomon.” It was a hoarse plea that echoed my thoughts of her.
“I know baby, I’ll take care of you.”
Turning, I strode over to the bed and laid her down on the very edge, opened my pants and plunged deep inside her with one long stroke.
Utter. Fucking. Bliss.
I never knew being inside a female could feel this good, and considering how many of them I’d been with, that was saying something. Yet being inside Renee was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. It wasn’t just a joining of flesh; it was a melding of souls.
Placing my arms behind her knees, I held her lower body off the bed and began moving. Every slide of my hard flesh into her tight, wet channel sent pleasure rippling up my spine and I knew this wasn’t going to last anywhere near long enough.
Renee was watching me from the bed, her lips parted, her eyes filled with molten gold. Her breaths came in short pants then moans spilled from her lips as her hands fisted in the sheets.
Oh, she was so close, so hot and wet, and so damn sexy.
My thrusts came more urgently, pushing us to the edge faster, harder, my hips rotating as I plunged into her again and again. As the pleasure between us built, that magnetic force that had always drawn me to her intensified pulling me closer until I didn’t know where I ended and she began.
When her body seized with her orgasm I buried myself in her quivering sheath and let the tidal wave of sensation overcome me. There was no way I would ever part from her again. She was my life, she was my heart, she was my soul.
I sank to my knees bringing Renee with me, and held her against my chest while I caught my breath. After a moment I realized she was trembling, then I heard her sniffle and I pulled back to look at her face. The tears streaming down her cheeks were like a punch to the gut.
Cradling her head in my hand, I held her against my chest again. “I’m so sorry Renee. I wanted to wait until we worked out whatever is going on between us, but then I touched you and I lost it.”
“I didn’t want this,” she sobbed. “I didn’t want you to be forced into being with me.”
“Where is this coming from? I love you Renee, you know that,” I said smoothing my hand over her hair then down her back.
“I know you love me, but not like this...”
She shook her head, pushing at my chest and I released her so she could stand. Stumbling away from me she said, “I can’t do this right now. I need you to go.”
“Renee...”
“Just go Solomon,” she screamed, tears falling from her chin. Hearing the pain in her voice and seeing her face twisted with anguish broke my heart. When I stood, I must have moved towards her because she threw her hands out in a stop motion and pleaded, “Please...”
Not wanting to cause her any more pain, I closed my pants and opened the closet door. She wasn’t looking at me anymore, just staring down at the floor while she stood there trembling, but I had to say something before I left. “I’ll be at Supernova if you change your mind and want to talk.”
With a wave of my hand and a few whispered words I cast a locator spell on Renee in case she decided to run, then I turned and went through the portal leaving her alone. On the other side, I found myself in a small room with a desk, two armchairs and a couch. Renee’s scent was strong and I guessed that I was in her office at Supernova.
Perfect. Time to track down a fire demon.
~ Renee ~
About two minutes after Solomon left, I realized my mistake and raced through the portal to catch him before it was too late. I caught up to him right before he punched through the last door between him and the dance club beyond. “Solomon!”
He swung around to face me with wide eyes that quickly narrowed when I stopped several feet away from him. No sense making a disastrous night worse by setting off another round of mating frenzy fueled sex.
“I know what you’re doing and I’m asking you not to do it,” I said, breathless after sprinting to get there in time.
Crossing his arms over the hard planes of his chest, he leaned back against the wall. The way his shirt stretched over his chest and arms drew my eyes but I tried to think past the mating frenzy and the heat building between my legs. “And what is it you think I’m going to do?”
“I’m not stupid Solomon, so please don’t treat me like I am. Dimitri has been a good friend to me since I came here to Supernova and I don’t want to see either one of you hurt, or dead.”
His eyes flashed pure gold. “It looked like you were a hell of a lot more than friends to me.”
The accusation in his tone set my teeth on edge and I snapped, “You left me Solomon. You got me all wound up and ready to go, then you just left me. Maybe it was only a dream but my body sure as hell didn’t know the difference, and you made it very clear that you wanted no part of having sex with me.”
“Bloody hell Renee,” He said running his hands through his hair. Solomon had a faint English accent that became progressively more pronounced when he was angry or upset like he was now. It was always sexy as hell but right now it was playing havoc with my already enflamed libido. “I left because I didn’t want our first time to be in a dream, and because I knew there was someone with me in reality and I didn’t want my actions with you to be mirrored with her.”
I put my hands on my hips and glared at him. “Well
how was I supposed to know that? It’s not like you explained why you were leaving. And what difference would it make if you slept with whoever you fed from today considering how many other women you’ve probably been with since then?”
He looked me right in the eyes and said, “I have only had sex with one female, one time, since my fox woke up and that was only because I was so delirious from exhaustion during the storm that I thought she was you.”
Whoa! Six months without sex? Solomon? If I’d heard it from anyone else I wouldn’t have believed it, but I knew Solomon well enough to know when he was telling the truth and he was being dead serious right now.
“Why would you suddenly stop having sex just because your fox woke up?”
He let out a frustrated breath and sagged against the wall behind him. “At first it was only because he wouldn’t let me. Every time I tried, he made my dick go limp. Then I realized he knew where our mate was and I no longer wanted to have sex with anyone else.”
All this time I’d been trying to give him what I thought he wanted not knowing that his fox had already taken it away from him. I tried to feel bad about making him suffer unnecessarily, but knowing he hadn’t slept with anyone for six months made me unbelievably happy. Then I remembered the one, and what he said in our dream about betraying me suddenly made a lot more sense. “Who did you have sex with during the storm?”
“It doesn’t matter Renee, it only happened because I was on the verge of bloodlust and I thought she was you.”
My jaw set and I asked again, “Who was it Solomon? After all, fair is fair. If you challenge Dimitri I’ll need to know who to hunt down and kill for daring to touch my mate.”
Now it was his turn to glare but he answered, “It was Rachel, Rook’s new stepdaughter.”
